Everyone has probably heard this at school: "a-squared plus b-squared equals c-squared".

The Pythagorean shift is a simple and quickly completed kit that consists of a postcard-sized cardboard pocket with a movable tongue inside. When it is moved, the surface of the large square begins to move upwards and flow into the other two squares.

This creates the intuitive feeling in the user that the thing about equal areas just has to be right!
